Remembered

Rob Halliday

I am very sad to pass on the news that former Wilts & Dorset rider Rob Halliday passed away last Friday 19th April. Rob had not been riding for a few years but many of you still riding our club events will remember the very competitive combination of Rob and his much modified ex works 350 Enfield.

Both Noeline and myself are pleased to remember Rob as a close friend; we still kept in touch on a rather occasional and ad hoc basis, usually bumping into each other at motorcycle shows or events. We last talked to Rob at the rescheduled Shepton Mallet show on Friday 22 February in the relative quiet of the set up day. He told us then that during a scan for a routine condition it was discovered that he had cancer of the spine. Although somewhat thoughtful Rob was, as always, positive and talking about new treatments that may be available to him.  It is very hard to comprehend that our meeting was just eight weeks ago but comforting to have met him then; and with hindsight realise that most probably Rob was not there on the Friday by chance but had come when he knew it would be quiet and a high probability of meeting many of his friends. In control of the situation as always; thank you for looking us up Rob.

Further to the sad news last week of Rob Halliday’s sudden passing, I can tell you that the funeral will be on Tuesday May 7th, 3.30 pm at the

Westerleigh Crematorium, Westerleigh Rd, Westerleigh, Bristol BS37 8QP  After the service there will be a gathering at the Crematorium for refreshments and the chance to remember Rob with his friends and family.

The family welcome anyone who can attend and stay for a chat, a bite to eat and a drink. They have requested no flowers but any donations will be for the Hospital Ward that looked after Rob at the end. With no idea of the likely turnout, I have been  asked if I can help with some idea of numbers; if you think you would like to attend could you send me an e mail to either our Wilts and Dorset address or my personal address ‘bob.rjsmith@yahoo.co.uk’. I will consolidate the response and let the family know.

Lets remember a larger than life character, very good rider, bike preparer and personal friend who I shall miss greatly.

Best regards

Bob Smith
